Snowmobiling

Spring-Winter has arrived!

We are now moving into a beautiful time of year called Spring-Winter! We have eight seasons up here in Lapland, a lot of people will tell you that the Spring-Winter is the best.

It is the time of year one can do most winter activities, such as snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoe hiking, snowboarding, ice fishing, long hikes, and actually have the feeling of spring in the air. The snow becomes excellent because of the slight thaw during midday and the frost during the nights. The sun is bright and out long, long days! We gain about an hour of sunlight every week and soon the sun will not go down at all. Ultimate freedom! Spring-Winter usually lasts until May so yeah us πŸ™‚

Today is a beautiful sunny day, the birds are chirping and the squirrels are out. I live in a beautiful place!

The pictures are from our last snowmobile trip. The sun was bright and on top of the mountains you could see endless forests. πŸƒπŸƒ

Do you see the imprint in the snow on one picture? That is from a bird. They hide under the snow to stay warm. When they then hear us coming they will take off. This bird left wonderful wing imprints in the snow! A friend of mine called it ‘poetry in the snow’.

It hasn’t stopped snowing since my last post!

You read that right.

I think we have over a meter of snow right now, we really do not need more….. This should last us well into spring! But the days are getting longer and longer and it is absolutely lovely outside. The snowmobile tracks are in their finest conditions and everything looks so pure. In not too long from now we will have daylight all day long! No more nights! That of course also means no more Northern Lights for a while. But we will survive as they always come back.

But I can not help to wonder about summer. It is still 4 months away… but still.

Until then, here is more winter. πŸƒπŸƒ

We found our snow :)

Yes we did! A fresh new blanket of powder snow covers the landscape.

It is so uplifting! We got about 30 cm since yesterday and it will be snowing all day today. I’ll take some pictures for you when it has stopped snowing, right now it really is just grey outside.

We took some customers out for a whole day snowmobile safari a few days ago. It was very exciting πŸƒπŸƒ

Snow!!

It finally started snowing again!

Everything feels so good right now. We just finished a huge teambuilding event and everyone was so happy! They loved the food I madeΒ – which was smoked & salted reindeer stew with chanterelles, carrots and red onions served with lingon berries, potatoes and flatbread. It was a great energy booster for the rest of the season πŸ™‚

Now of course we are in clean-up faze which is less fun….

But like the title said: IT’S SNOWING!!! And boy do we need it. We have less then half the amount of snow we normally have this time of year. I think we might have 30 cm left after the last warm days and we normally have at least a meter to a meter-and-a-half. If we have any more warm days before we get some real new snow, we might be cancelling snowmobiling. And what is a winter without snowmobiling????

On the program for this weekend is more clean-up and maybe the Jokkmokk Market!! I have always wanted to go but we have been busy every year. It is actually only an hours drive so I am hopeful we will make it this year πŸ™‚ Will be taking lots of pictures of course. I will try some tricks I learnt from Streets of Nuremberg blog and get some people shots.

Fun facts:

  • The Jokkmokk market is over 400 years old! This is the 412th to be exact.
  • I have now fallen down 18 times this winter – this is a very slippery winter!!! (but Thomas says its just me… )Β The last one really hurt! I fell on the stairs….Β

Winter Wonderland.

Oh wauw. It has been a week since I posted…..

Time goes by so fast!! We have been so busy with planning an upcoming event where almost 80 people will participate in a bushcraft evening. It is exciting to know so many people from all over the world are going to meet up here!

In between all of this planning we of course still have all of our other guests that come here for snowmobile safaris and other winter adventures. I keep on seeing these AMAZING views outside but I hardly have time to pick up the camera!! But I am always happy when our guests get to take pictures of this winter wonderland so they can be reminded of how beautiful this place is when they get home again. Me? I will see it again the next day!

I did manage to capture a great sunset when we were putting up the tentipi though. I will share that one. I also went for a short hike at Γ…byΓ€lven and took some pictures of the fresh snowfall. In the very last picture you can spot our neighbors dogsledding! πŸƒπŸƒ

You see the tentipi? Imagine living in it for an entire year…. that will be our next project πŸ™‚ But more on that later.

Photo Project!

I have been experimenting with some pictures.

Winter + snow + snowmobiling + dogsledding + northern lights + Raya = winter wonderland!! So what happens when you combine pictures of these? πŸƒπŸƒ

I think it turned out well, what do you think? I will be making more of these. I wanna try some with fire! Oooooh πŸ˜€

Almost New Year!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a WONDERFUL Chrismas πŸ˜€

We have been keeping busy greeting people from all over Europe who visit us for snowmobile safaris. It is so rewarding to see happy faces!

I got a new snowmobile for my birthday πŸ˜€ (which was the 20th of December) but I have hardly had any time to take it out for a spin! There have been a few trips here and there. Maybe I will join our Northern Lights snowmobile safari tomorrow evening :).

Anyway, I have SOOOO many new pictures I want to show you! I will start with some night photography at Γ…byΓ€lven. The Northern Lights came out to say hi and it was a stunning evening. πŸƒπŸƒ

Darkest day of the year & Snowmobiling towards the sun.

We don’t have much daylight at the moment.

This week is the darkest week of the year, the 21st of December is the darkest DAY of the year.

On the darkest day the sun rises at 10.10AM here in Auktsjaur and sets at 1.10PM. Yepp, not a lot of daylight. This might sound bad… BUT at least we are not in Kiruna πŸ˜€

Kiruna is a town high up in Sweden and they have the polar nights. Like as in NO sun. Everything above the Arctic Circle will experience polar nights, we are right underneath it. So YEAH us!

Kiruna actually has 28 days without the sun rising above the horizon. 28! Twenty-eight!! Can you imagine seeing the sun set in November and knowing it wont rise until January?

They do have twilight though. So it is not DARK dark. Just a little dark πŸ™‚

Anyway, we went snowmobiling last Sunday. The sun rose right in front of us. πŸƒπŸƒ

Our snowmobile season is on its way!

Yeah!

It has been a busy BUSY weekend. Our first snowmobile tour of the season is a fact. Final preparations were made on Saturday for an international group of young men in high spirits! Even though the temperature ranged from -22Β°C to -30Β°C our guests were brave and had a great time!

It was such a clear day. The sky was blue and the sun was bright. It bathed the top of the forest in bright golden sunlight.

Great day. Looking forward to this season.
