Darkest day of the year & Snowmobiling towards the sun.

We don’t have much daylight at the moment.

This week is the darkest week of the year, the 21st of December is the darkest DAY of the year.

On the darkest day the sun rises at 10.10AM here in Auktsjaur and sets at 1.10PM. Yepp, not a lot of daylight. This might sound bad… BUT at least we are not in Kiruna ๐Ÿ˜€

Kiruna is a town high up in Sweden and they have the polar nights. Like as in NO sun. Everything above the Arctic Circle will experience polar nights, we are right underneath it. So YEAH us!

Kiruna actually has 28 days without the sun rising above the horizon. 28! Twenty-eight!! Can you imagine seeing the sun set in November and knowing it wont rise until January?

They do have twilight though. So it is not DARK dark. Just a little dark ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, we went snowmobiling last Sunday. The sun rose right in front of us. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿƒ

  1. I love the video. They go faster than I had imagined in my head. I visualized a slow putt. Love the photos, and no… I cannot imagine that November to January thing…but then again, as much time as I spend inside sometimes who would know?? haha. Beautiful stuff!

  2. Three hours daylight – I cannot imagine! But I guess you just make the most of it. ๐Ÿ™‚ You certainly have beautiful scenery and I agree with Endless rivers above, the snowmobile travels a lot faster than I thought it would. 40 kph is pretty fast over that uneven terrain, but what fun to drive towards the sunrise. ๐Ÿ™‚
