Today we went to Dolvor to make the cottage ready for the winter. It is about 50 minutes’ drive on small forest roads and a kilometer hike to reach this wilderness cottage so we have not had time to make this cottage ready for the winter yet. We also had fishing and hunting guest there for the last two weeks so it has not been possible to do that earlier either. The winter also took us by surprise this year. It is October and yes, it is not unusual that we see the snow already but “normally” it comes and goes during this month. This year it was not like that and the first snow from the 7th of October will most likely not disappear until late spring. I think we have to go many, many years back to find that early snow coverage here.
Now all our boats, canoes and both cottages are ready for the winter. Dolvor cottage will most likely not be used that much this winter. The roads over there will not be cleaned from snow so it is a long drive by snowmobile to get there. Since it has so remote location we will not let any guests stay there by themselves during the winter season. Reivo cottage will be used all year around though. The roads will not be cleaned for snow there either but it is a much shorter ride by snowmobile or sled dogs to get there. It is good that we have stacked up 37 cubic firewood over at Reivo this summer because I have a feeling that it will be burnet a few logs this Winter.
